Messkampagne erfolgreich beendet // Measurement campaign successfully completed

To launch a new project involving autonomous shuttles, measurements using various sensors were conducted on July 21, 2026. The Mechlab team participated using an Ouster OS1-64 LiDAR sensor. A brief excerpt illustrates the challenges autonomous vehicles face on the university campus. A detailed report will be available once all the data has been analyzed.
Many thanks to the teams led by Prof. Raffaela Cefalo (University of Trieste) and Prof. Polona Pavlovčič Prešeren (University of Ljubljana) for the excellent collaboration.
The video displays the 3D point cloud (bottom right). Shown at the top is the infrared (IR) image of the surroundings; this is automatically generated by the Ouster sensor and provides valuable additional information for distance measurement. The video on the left serves solely for documentation purposes and is not being analyzed.

Messung erfolgreich // Measurement successful

After a long journey, our little „Ladybug“ has safely arrived on the Slovenian Adriatic coast. In the meantime, Noa Tippmann has successfully commissioned the measurement equipment and conducted initial measurements alongside two students from UP-FAMNIT. During this process, a rather unusual situation arose involving an unexpected „pedestrian.“

Neuer PTI-Prüfroboter // New PTI test robot

To relieve test engineers of future workloads, HTW Dresden launched a project for robot-based vehicle inspection. One application is the visual analysis of the vehicle, for example, checking for damage or wear. Today, the PTI robot’s future workstation, still manually controlled, was commissioned for the first time (PTI – Periodical Technical Inspection).
As part of the FAMNIT/HTWD hackathon at the end of September, the students coming to Dresden will have the opportunity to create their first automated applications.

Besuch aus Slovenien // Visit from Slovenia

From June 23-27, 2025, Prof. Branko Kavšek from the University of Primorska (Koper, Slovenia) visited the HTW Dresden. In addition to professional discussions in preparation for the 2nd FAMNIT/HTWD Hackathon, there was still plenty of time to explore the city and its surroundings. Highly qualified staff also introduced him to the variety of Saxon brewery products during a ride on the autonomous shuttle.
