An Erasmus BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) is a mobility format under the Erasmus+ programme (2021-2027) that combines online learning with a short period of in-person mobility at partner higher-education institutions.
Remaining time:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is already being used successfully in many areas. For future mobility, such as autonomous vehicles, AI decisions must be transparent and explainable. To discuss the technology’s potential and existing challenges, an Erasmus+ BIP program is offered to interested students. In particular, the following questions should be discussed and answered if possible:
- Which AI models are suitable for the application cases?
- Which parameters influence the results and how strong are they?
- There are AI models that do not cause hallucinations?
- Does the AI have to work independently in each vehicle or is a central AI necessary?

The program is organized by these universities:
- Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies (UP FAMNIT) of the University of Primorska

Prof. Toralf Trautmann (HTWD) – Use of AI in autonomous shuttle buses
At HTWD, an autonomous EasyMile EZ10 shuttle is being used to develop new testing procedures. AI is being used in various areas, for example, in obstacle detection.
It is important to ensure that the AI’s results are comprehensible and reproducible. The lecture will first explain the necessary fundamentals for understanding. Building on this, concepts for AI validation will be developed and implemented during the on-site week. The autonomous shuttle can also be controlled remotely from Koper.

Two thematically related events were already held at UP FAMNIT in 2024 and 2025. Functions for automated vehicles were developed and tested in road tests. These developments were already in use at HTWD in 2025.

The following article shows the autonomous vehicle available at HTWD. This can be used for functional development and testing within the framework of the BIP.
